Glenwood Springs, CO (December 12, 2015) – Glenwood Hot Springs maintains a high standard when it comes to guest safety. To keep their skills sharp, approximately thirty staff lifeguards perfected their rescue skills by participating in a boot-camp-style training session on Saturday, December 12.
Assistant Pool Manager Tricia Bosarge coordinates the program and said, “Being a lifeguard means being prepared for anything at any time. Continual education is a must. Therefore, when an incident or accident occurs, the guards can respond in a split second, assess a guest’s condition and provide appropriate care or summon more advanced help.”
Six different stations were set up around the Glenwood Hot Springs property to evaluate swimming skills; practice in-water head splint, back board and spinal procedures; review rescue breathing and CPR with BVM (bag valve mask) and recovery position techniques; and to take an oxygen administration test and a fainting quiz.
Each lifeguard is trained and certified according to American Red Cross specifications in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED (automated external defibrillator), first aid and emergency oxygen administration.
Four hours of in-service training is required monthly for each lifeguard at Glenwood Hot Springs. “To fulfill their job responsibilities, a professional lifeguard must be mentally and emotionally prepared at all times to do their job,” said Bosarge.
Bosarge summed it up by proclaiming, “As a team, we are striving to be the best professional lifeguards in the Roaring Fork Valley.”
