Four area students receive scholarships to pursue future academic plans
Glenwood Springs, Colorado (June 9, 2021) – Jeremy Bradshaw, Christian Vasquez, Kobe Wild and Hailie Trujillo are the newest recipients of the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Higher Education Scholarship, an annual endowment totaling $10,000.
For 26 years running, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort (GHSR) has helped young people achieve dreams for their future through continued learning. The scholarship was created in 1995 to financially assist goal-oriented individuals attend accredited institutions of higher learning, including four-year colleges and universities, community colleges and trade schools. To date, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort has given away $232,000 to deserving young people, and there were many exceptional scholarship applications submitted for 2021.
Bradshaw, Vasquez and Wild will each receive $3,000 awards, and Trujillo is the recipient of a $1,000 award. The scholarship is payable per semester over the course of four years and requires each candidate to be a student in good standing.
Jeremy Bradshaw, a graduate of Glenwood Springs High School, will attend Idaho State University to study paramedic science. At GHSR, he has worked as a lifeguard and team lead since 2019. As a volunteer with Sunlight Ski Patrol, Bradshaw responds to on-mountain medical emergencies and assists with mountain safety and was named Sunlight Ski Patrol Rookie of the Year in 2019. He also has demonstrated leadership qualities as a member of the Glenwood Springs Fire Department Explorer Program and GSHS varsity football team, all while achieving academic honor roll. Jeremy is the son of Pete and Laura Bradshaw.
Christian Vasquez, a Coal Ridge High School graduate, has selected Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, to study business management. He also received an athletic scholarship from the university upon being selected for the very competitive cheerleading program. Vasquez has worked at GHSR since last year as an Athletic Club and Spa of the Rockies attendant. His strong work ethic and determination lend itself to academic excellence and multiple accomplishments, including leading his cheerleading team as captain to three state titles and an academic All-State Award. Christian is the son of Francisco Vasquez and Brandie Billings.
Kobe Wild recently wrapped up his time at Coal Ridge High School and plans to attend University of Colorado Boulder and explore academic options before settling on a major. Wild is a familiar face on the pool deck, where he has worked as a pool attendant and lifeguard since 2019. In addition to working at GHSR, Kobe participated in football, basketball and track and was an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes all four years of high school, all while maintaining a high GPA. Kobe is the son of Patrick and Monica Wild.
Hailie Trujillo graduated from Coal Ridge High School while being dual-enrolled at Colorado Mountain College, where she is working on a degree in digital media. Trujillo is a lifeguard at GHSR and was involved in her school’s student council and athletics for multiple years while maintaining academic excellence. She already has received a certificate in basic welding and cutting and is participating in the Skills USA Welding & Fabrication competition this summer. Hailie is the daughter of Terry Halvorson and Karen Hamilton.
