Spring Break 2019: What’s Happening at Glenwood Hot Springs

Spring break in Colorado is upon us—that wonderful time of year when families get to take a mid-season vacation to their favorite hot springs destination in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This year, spring breakers can count on warm-water fun and get a glimpse of exciting new things to come.

As a season of renewal and revitalization, spring is a time for new growth and a fresh outlook, and nowhere is that truer than at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort in 2019.

While guests look forward to a warm-water, mid-season getaway in the Colorado mountains, they’ll also notice some big changes going on at the west end of the world-famous hot springs pool. Glenwood Hot Springs has been busy with a project that will soon add a new dimension to the pool-going experience—a yet-to-be-named, state-of-the-industry aquatic adventure zone.

The multiple new water features are on-target to open in July of 2019. The centerpiece is an adventure river that mimics a fast-moving whitewater rafting trip in the Colorado mountains, complete with boulders, a waterfall and lush landscaping. Another highlight of the design focuses on the resort’s youngest guests. Highlights include a tot-friendly splash pad centered around a gentle fountain during the daytime, which transforms into an eye-catching show fountain after hours; for more sure-footed youngsters an interactive play pool promises to keep kids entertained for hours. Nearby seating with dappled shade provides a comfortable and convenient place for parents and kids to take a break.

Now that you have the big picture, here’s a nitty-gritty look what we’ve accomplished so far and what’s coming up:

  • We bid a fond farewell to the mini-golf course and fiberglass waterslides.
  • The rough grading for future aquatic attractions is close to completion.
  • To protect our large, established trees, several newly excavated earthen walls were covered in gray “shotcrete,” a temporary shoring material used to protect tree roots and prevent erosion until permanent footers and forms can be placed and poured.
  • The temporary shipping container in the parking lot above the pool is housing all-new, state-of-the-art ozone generation equipment which is already in use!
  • We are busy retrofitting the existing pool mechanical building to permanently house the equipment.
  • We’re also finishing construction of a second mechanical building at the base of the north pedestrian bridge abutment.
  • Assembly of the adventure river concrete forms is in the works, though it takes place off-site.
  • Preparation for the installation of the splash pad and show fountain is beginning soon.
  • The stairs that connect the west parking lot to the north end of the pedestrian bridge are scheduled to re-open mid-March for the convenience of spring break guests but will likely close again for a time when construction continues.

Even with so much happening, Glenwood Hot Springs is still the water-centric, mid-season getaway that it has always been—a splash-worthy and deeply relaxing spring break destination. The length of a football field, the world’s largest hot springs pool is quite literally transformed into an aquatic playground. It’s big enough for all your favorite floaties and for playing a game of catch with a spongey ball. Wear the kids out, then retreat to the therapy pool to recharge your batteries. For a little pampering, add a massage treatment at the Spa of the Rockies. As always, guests staying at the Lodge enjoy a full, hot breakfast each morning at the poolside Grill restaurant.

It’s spring break at last! Relax and see what’s new at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort.
