Warm and Bright: Glenwood Hot Springs Switches On Their Winter Lights

Over a half-mile of festive lights illuminate the historic Glenwood Hot Springs this winter!

Glenwood Hot Springs is going to great lengths this year to shine brighter than ever before, even on winter’s darkest nights. The resort’s “Winter Lights” will be glowing in time for the holidays and for months to come with more twinkle power than in any year previous!

It took over a week for the crew of West Side Lighting to string the thousands of lights that now adorn the Glenwood Hot Springs property. It is the company’s largest lighting project to date. “Our goal is to create a stunning lighting display that first and foremost delights the onlooker,” said Zack Smith, lighting designer and owner of the Carbondale-based company.

In keeping with the Glenwood Hot Springs’ focus on green initiatives, the resort required the lights be energy efficient. Smith used only LED bulbs which, in comparison to incandescents have a lifespan of approximately 100,000 hours (vs. 3,000 hours for regular bulbs) all while consuming 80 to 90 percent less energy!

Like icing trims a gingerbread house, warm white lights bedeck Glenwood Hot Springs’ buildings including the lower complex, the historic stone bathhouse and the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge. In addition to the structures, two trees are brimming with lights, a 20 foot tree in all white and an 80 foot tree in all blue. A spectacular sight! Out of respect for nearby homeowners, Glenwood Hot Springs chose to avoid lighting areas that directly faced residences. Lights were also omitted on buildings as viewed from the pools to preserve the resort’s traditional ambiance for guests enjoying an evening soak in the Hot Springs Pool.

Glenwood Hot Springs’ Winter Lights will shine on until the vernal equinox in March. Find out more about Glenwood Hot Springs and make lodging reservations at www.visitglenwood.com.
