Glenwood Hot Springs Announces Three College Scholarship Winners

This year, three Glenwood Springs High School students were chosen to receive the Glenwood Hot Springs Higher Education Scholarship. Sierra Weast, Kyle Snyder and Corey Gera are the 2012 winners, and combined will receive $10,000 in scholarship funds, distributed over four years, to pursue their higher educational goals. 2012 is the 17th year Glenwood Hot Springs has awarded the scholarships.

 

Scholarship winners with Kjell MitchellGlenwood Springs, Colo. (May 1, 2012) – For the 17th consecutive year, Glenwood Hot Springs has selected the winners of the Glenwood Hot Springs Higher Education Scholarship. The three deserving seniors are all employed at Glenwood Hot Springs and attend Glenwood Springs High School. Sierra Weast and Kyle Snyder will each receive $1,000 per year for four years, and Corey Gera will receive $500 per year for four years.

 

“This scholarship is a way for Glenwood Hot Springs to emphasize the importance of attaining a higher education; we are very proud of these three young people and wish them the best for their future,” said Kjell Mitchell, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager for Glenwood Hot Springs.

 

Sierra Weast, daughter of John and Judith Weast, has worked many posts at Glenwood Hot Springs, including as a Grill employee, pool cashier and lifeguard. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in social work, an accelerated five-year program offered at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Sierra received a total award of $4,000.

 

Already a talented musician, Kyle Snyder, whose parents are Dana and Rilla Snyder, plans to major in music education at either the University of Northern Colorado or Colorado Mesa University. Kyle is employed as the pianist at the First United Methodist Church in Glenwood Springs, and also works at both the Glenwood Hot Springs Snack Bar and the Grill. Kyle was also awarded $4,000.

 

Elated Scholarship WinnersLifeguard Corey Gera plans to attend Adams State University in Alamosa or Colorado Mountain College (CMC) here in Glenwood Springs, where she is looking forward to following a pre-med/nursing course of study. She sees the advantages of both schools: the possibility of playing soccer at Adams State or being close to home by attending CMC. Corey is the daughter of Richard Gera of Dawsonville, Georgia, and Virginia Gera of Glenwood Springs. Corey received a $2,000 award.

 

Congratulations to the 2012 Glenwood Hot Springs Higher Education Scholarship winners. The Glenwood Hot Springs Higher Education Scholarship was established in 1995 for the higher education of students who meet particular criteria determined by the selection committee.
