This year however, the Glenwood Hot Springs has increased its financial commitment to the education of young people even more. Monica will receive $2,500 per year for four years of her college education, a total of $10,000.
Glenwood Springs, CO (May 11, 2009) – Like the tradition of high school graduation, the tradition of selecting the newest recipient of the Annual Glenwood Hot Springs Higher Education Scholarship is a much anticipated Spring event. This year’s scholarship goes to deserving senior, Monica Gucwa, who also works as a lifeguard at the Hot Springs Pool.

Monica, daughter of Wes and Bozena Gucwa, will be attending Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado this fall where she plans to study teaching. Monica hopes to become an elementary school teacher after graduation. She has already accumulated teaching experience through swimming lesson instruction at the Hot Springs Pool and service learning at Glenwood Springs Elementary School.
With the Glenwood Hot Springs Higher Education Scholarship, Monica will receive $2,500 per year, for up to four years to offset the cost of her college education. This is a $2,000 increase in financial commitment from the Glenwood Hot Springs. “The Glenwood Hot Springs has always seen the potential young people have to offer, this scholarship is a way for us to encourage excellence and help them reach their lifelong goals. Monica is a very deserving young woman and the Glenwood Hot Springs wishes her luck and success in her studies,” said Kjell Mitchell, General Manager/COO for the Glenwood Hot Springs.
The Glenwood Hot Springs Education Scholarship was established in 1995 for the higher education of students who meet particular criteria determined by the selection committee.
