Guard on Duty: Easing Back Into the Swim of Things

Spring is finally here and after a long winter you may be more than ready to jump back into the pool!  If it has been a few months since you last swam laps, realize it might take a little time and practice to get your swimming muscles back in shape. Swimming is an excellent fitness activity, but to avoid injuries remember to take it easy at first.

  • Always enter and exit the pool slowly and safely.  
  • If possible, swim with a buddy.
  • Allow time to adjust to water and air temperatures.
  • Start off at a slow to moderate pace and gradually increase your tempo over time.
