Spa to Make History Again in 2008 |
|
Over
100 years ago, the Glenwood Hot Springs was known for sunken
Roman tubs in the old sandstone bathhouse originally built in
1888. Today, construction is underway to recreate a full-service
17,000 square foot spa with nine treatment rooms in the original
historic building.
General Manager Kjell Mitchell describes the facility as a natural spa focused on healing. "Our mission is to make people feel better and this spa is a perfect compliment to our Athletic Club and pool facilities," he explains. The company has been researching and working toward a business plan to include a spa for over five years. "Based on the history of this property, it seems only natural to reintroduce a spa component."
The new spa will have eight massage therapy rooms and one specialized
hydrotherapy treatment room. Relaxation rooms, tub treatments,
manicures and pedicures will also be offered.
R.A. Nelson of Avon, Colorado is the contractor for the project. Smith Club & Spa Specialists in Basalt, Colorado serves as the consultant for overall development, and OLC Architects of Denver, Colorado will oversee the architectural and interior designs. Completion of the project will be in phases with the spa opening in the fall of 2008.
Reconfigurations to the Athletic Club racquetball courts, ventilation systems, showers and bathroom areas are also taking place in the historic sandstone structure.
Construction will be contained in a defined area so will have very little impact on Hot Springs Pool patrons.
