Glenwood Canyon Brewpub Creates Big Medicine Ale in Honor of 125th
Glenwood Canyon Brewing Company, the award-winning Glenwood Springs brewpub, will be serving a commemorative beer to celebrate Glenwood Hot Springs’ 125th anniversary, called Big Medicine Ale and promising to “cure what ales you.” The beverage, so named for the curative Yampah hot spring that translates from the Ute language to “Big Medicine,” is an easy drinking beer with a golden color and an inviting hop aroma. The beer will be available beginning in mid-May at the Glenwood Canyon Brewpub and served in a keepsake pint glass on May 18 and 19, while supplies last.

May Health & Beauty Hints: Get Skin Summer Ready
Dry, itchy, sunburned skin can be a negative summer side effect. Shea butter is a rich emollient that traps moisture, promotes elasticity, protects against sun damage and fades age spots. The goal is not only to add moisture to the skin, but to keep it there. Below are a few tips from Zents to keep skin healthy and hydrated. All of these products are available in the Spa of the Rockies boutique.

Dry Skin Tip 1: Keep Water Lukewarm, Not Hot
Hot water robs skin of moisture causing dry skin; it’s best to shower in lukewarm temperatures. The same rule applies to hand washing. Try: Zents triple-milled shea butter soaps, which hydrate and nourish as they cleanse. Luxuriously creamy shea butter suds replenish moisture, infusing the skin with unparalleled softness.

Dry Skin Tip 2: Take Extra Care of Heels, Elbows, Knees and Hands
These areas are especially susceptible to dry, itchy skin. Hydrate your feet at night by applying balm and sleeping in cotton socks. Try: Zents Concreta for a powerful infusion of 100 percent organic shea butter with a protective dose of beeswax. Emollient Concreta is therapeutic for heels, knees, elbows, cuticles and hands.

Dry Skin Tip 3: Maintain a Daily Body Care Regimen
The best way to deal with dry, dehydrated skin is to moisturize every day after your bathing ritual. For skin that is soft, supple and replenished, take a few minutes each day to hydrate with lotion. Try: Zents body lotion with 100 percent organic shea butter and sodium PCA, a natural humectant that holds moisture to hydrate, plump lines and improve elasticity.

Mom can even take 10 percent off when she adds on any other spa service. This package begins at $322, based on double occupancy. For reservations call 1-877-947-3331.

Guard on Duty: Hot Weather Hydration
Summer is fast approaching and temperatures are steadily escalating. Staying hydrated is always important, especially as the mercury climbs. When swimming at the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, and in particular when enjoying the therapy pool, remember to drink plenty of water and not just soak in it. During typical activities not involving extreme levels of physical activity, drink eight full glasses of water per day. Try to spread your consumption out over the entire day; this will help you to stay hydrated and not fall victim to heat exhaustion and other hydration-related maladies. See you at the pool!

“I was born in Wyoming and moved to Colorado in the 1970s. I have three grown children and four wonderful grandsons. I started working for Glenwood Hot Springs back in 1988 and I love it. I also have a passion for photography and enjoy going out as often as I can to take pictures of the area. My husband Peter and I will be celebrating our 10-year wedding anniversary in November and are planning to visit Disney World in Florida…can’t wait. I guess I am a really big kid at heart.”
